Harness and Safety Belts: Your Safety in Suspension
Do you work at height or in unstable positions? Choose the right harness or belt for you.
Ensuring the safety of workers who operate in suspended positions or at risk of falling is a primary need in various work sectors. Harnesses and safety belts are essential tools for preventing injuries and protecting the safety of those who operate in unstable contexts.
Harness: total protection for your body
The harness is a personal protective equipment (PPE) that envelops the worker's body, distributing the fall arrest forces across the entire body in the event of a fall. There are different types of harnesses, each with specific characteristics:
- Full body harness: It offers maximum protection, enveloping the entire body and distributing the fall arrest forces across the thighs, chest and shoulders. Ideal for work at high altitudes or with a risk of free fall.
- Leg harness: Protects the lower part of the body, ideal for work in semi-upright positions or with limited risk of falling.
- Positioning harness: Designed for positioning the worker in suspension, with dorsal and ventral anchor points.
Safety belt: safety and comfort for suspended work
The safety belt is a PPE that encircles the worker's waist, connecting him to a fixed anchor point. It offers protection in the event of an accidental fall, limiting the worker's movement.
Choosing the right harness or belt:
Choosing the most suitable device depends on several factors:
- Type of work: Evaluate the tasks to be performed, the working position and the risk of falling.
- Level of comfort: Choose a device that is comfortable to wear for long periods.
- Additional features: Some harnesses and belts include features such as multiple anchor points, lumbar supports or tool loops.
- Compliance with regulations: Make sure that the device you choose complies with current regulations on workplace safety.
Fall protection PPE: obligations and responsibility:
The use of harnesses and safety belts is mandatory for all workers who operate in suspended positions or at risk of falling, pursuant to the Consolidated Law on Safety at Work (Legislative Decree 81/2008). The employer is required to provide workers with adequate PPE, train them on their correct use and have them periodically maintained.
